My name is Joy Waters, and I'm the owner/instructor of JKL Training Academy.

During the mid 1970's, I developed the JKL professional groomer training programs to provide more flexible and affordable groomer education, through distance learning. In 1980, JKL Training Academy had become a private career training institute of professional pet grooming. 

For fifteen years I owned and operated Vancouver Island’s largest pet care centre, Joyland Kennels Ltd., where approximately five thousand dogs and cats visited yearly for the services provided.

These services included pet boarding, grooming, training, breeding, retail pet shop and wholesale pet food and supplies. During that time I developed and instructed comprehensive programs in professional dog and cat grooming.

In 1987, I retired from the kennel portion of my business and made the permanent move to Queen Charlotte City in Northern British Columbia, where I continued to offer professional grooming services, in conjunction with the academy, until a few years ago.

As student enrollment grew, (in part due to the internet), I opted to retire from active grooming.  This "retirement" is pretty busy at times,  but it has enabled me to meet my own personal commitment to be one hundred per cent available to my students and grads.
