What is a Fitness Instructor?

Emphasis is placed on gaining a sound knowledge base to do with the concepts Health, Exercise, Safety and Fitness. We'll also address the essential components of fitness and how these can be tested.   The ability to take part in exercise depends on a person's level of fitness which can be improved through regular training and exercise.  Methods of training will be analysed to give practical ideas on how and what type of training you can offer.  Guidance will be given on how to effectively plan training programs and sessions, including practical examples.
 

What does a fitness trainer do?

Fitness trainers may specialize in a particular sport or in a particular activity

  • strength training

  • aerobic dance

  • kick boxing

  • distance running

  • yoga

  • seniors fitness

Where do fitness instructors work?

  • health clubs

  • resorts

  • health-care facilities

Others are often self-employed. They may contract with health clubs or other organizations to teach classes, or they may work as personal trainers.

 

What will the course teach me?

A unit will focus on the impact of diet and nutrition on health and fitness.  Essential nutritional requirements will be looked at, and how tohydration and Fitness Training compose a balanced diet.  The dietary requirements of an athlete will also be studied.

Injury and safety will be covered in another unit.  Ways of preventing injury will be evaluated and discussed.  You will gain an insight into how to recognise and treat different injuries which will prepare you with basic first aid knowledge.  (Completing this course, however, does not mean that you are First Aid qualified).

Seven units will give you detailed knowledge about the different body systems, how they enable us to exercise, and the effects exercise has on them.  These units will give you a clear understanding of how the human body is structured, how the body organs work, and how the different systems work in unison to ensure that the body functions effectively and to its maximum potential.

sports and Fitness TrainingThe course will also look at factors that affect sporting performance both physiologically and psychologically.  These factors will determine how improved fitness levels and healthier lifestyles are achieved.

The final unit looks at the role of stress and anxiety on sporting performance.  It gives an insight into the physiological and psychological characteristics of these two closely connected forms of tension.  You will be given practical ideas on how to cope and manage stress.

By the time you have completed this course you will be able to plan exercise and nutritional programs for others, taking into account their individual differences in terms of age, gender, weight and fitness level.
