In addition to training and tuition fees there are set-up costs to consider, particularly if you plan on self-employment. These costs will vary depending on whether you are able to set up a home based or house call business (where you can manage with a minimal initial investment), a storefront (where rent, renovations and other related expenses may be an important consideration), or a mobile unit (where purchase or lease fees may increase start-up costs substantially). Before you can begin any serious hands on practice, you will need a variety of grooming tools and equipment. |
You can do this, too!

It may be important at this stage to balance costs versus quantity, but NEVER quality. Many of the tool and equipment decisions you make now will either stand up to time...or not. JKL recommends the purchase of professional quality grooming tools and equipment, even if this means doing without many of the truly fantastic "groomer's dream" products for now. They will be attainable soon enough, once you begin to develop and expand your clientele. As in many other trades or professions, the tools of the trade are not inexpensive. But generally, you get what you pay for, and the investment in quality now will pay off for many years to come.
