Groomer Training Center Allison Alonzo, JKL-CPGI
Working in the Grooming industry for twenty three years has afforded me the great opportunity of fulfilling my childhood dream of working with animals in a most rewarding way.
To say I work as a Professional Pet Groomer does not convey complete accuracy. Pet Grooming is not only what I do, what I teach, what I know, it's who I am.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching the art of Professional Pet Grooming and find it incredibly rewarding to have the opportunity of helping others achieve their dream of working in the Pet Industry. I take great pride in their accomplishments and encourage them to do the same.
I believe that Professional Pet Groomer is not a title that should be taken in stride. I teach my students that not everyone is capable of exercising the physical and mental skills, compassion, patience and professionalism needed to be a truly respected, successful Professional Pet groomer. Those true Professionals should hold their head high and expect the well deserved respect that they have earned in the industry.
Having partnered with JKL, I am very proud of the education opportunity I offer at my Groomer Training Center as a JKL Certified Grooming Instructor.
With the lack of standards being upheld in the industry for so long, I feel that we groomers need to do whatever possible to exercise and demonstrate our desire to be accountable for our actions and hold ourselves accountable to the highest possible standards. Having an accredited JKL certificate shows others that I believe just that.
I have my students spend a large amount of time practicing their most important scissoring kills. I believe that a groomer's scissoring abilities, along with the exercising of salon professionalism (including everything from salon and personal cleanliness and appearance, to customer service) are a major factor in separating one groomer from the next.
Although my students are often provided with a model yarn dog to help with Scissor practice, we do begin learning the basics (nails, ears, bathing...) on live animals as of day one. Once we have covered bathing and drying techniques the real fun begins! I schedule all dogs for students to practice on.
